Aesthetic Treatments

Aesthetic medicine is a broad term that refers to treatments aimed at improving cosmetic appearance. People often think of surgery, botox, and fillers when asked about aesthetic medicine, but there are so many other options available. If a person chooses to use aesthetic treatments and what treatments they choose is highly individualized and personal.

At Stone Naturopathic we have chosen to incorporate aesthetic treatments that are non-invasive or minimally invasiveand have a low-risk profile. These include: â€‹

Microneedling:

Microneedling is a procedure that is minimally invasive and involves the use of a tool known as a microneedling pen with an attached needling cartridge. The needling cartridges are individually packaged and contain anywhere from 12-36 pins. When the pen is on, there is mechanical action that punctures the skin and creates micro trauma.  The body naturally wants to heal these micro wounds by producing collagen and elastin, thus regenerating the skin and improving overall appearance. The needles penetrate from 0.25mm to 2.50mm into the skin depending on treatment location and goals.  This treatment is great for tightening the skin as well as reducing scars, pore size, and stretch marks.

Microneedling with PRP aka PRP Facial:

Microneedling with PRP or platelet-rich plasma has the added benefit of incorporating growth factors found in your own blood. These growth factors stimulate new collagen production and are obtained by spinning down (centrifuging) a sample of your blood. The resultant PRP is applied to the skin and the microneedling device is used over the PRP. The PRP facial can be done on the face, neck and upper chest area. Treatment may also include injections of PRP under the eyes and into the cheeks, acting as a natural filler.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a good candidate for microneedling or a PRP facial?

Anyone who wants to improve skin irregularities and does not have any of the conditions mentioned in the next section.  PRP acts to increase collagen, reduce wrinkles, shrink pore size, decrease acne scars, even skin tone, and improve overall skin texture.

Who is not a good candidate for microneedling or a PRP facial?

  • Anyone who has used Accutane within the last 6 months.

  • Anyone with open wounds, cuts, abrasions, or infections in the area to be treated.

  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Anyone with a history of keloid scars.

  • Anyone with diabetes or other condition that causes poor wound healing.

  • Anyone with eczema, psoriasis, active acne, rosacea, or other chronic skin conditions in the area being treated.

  • Anyone with actinic (solar) keratosis.

  • Anyone with raised moles, warts, or lesions in the treatment area.

  • Anyone who had Botox within 2 weeks or dermal filler within the last 4 weeks in the micro needling treatment area.

  • Absolute contraindications include those with scleroderma, blood clotting disorders, collagen vascular disease, immunosuppression, active bacterial or fungal infections, and scars less than 3 months old.

How often do I need treatment?

A single treatment will make a nice change, but a series of 3 or 6 treatments approximately 4-6 weeks apart is ideal for optimal results with microneedling and the PRP Facial.  After the initial series of treatments, many will choose to do maintenance treatments every 3 to 6 months thereafter. For PRP Hair Restoration, we strongly encourage a minimum of 3 treatments approximately 4 weeks apart then every 3-6 months thereafter.

How much downtime will I experience?

Most patients will experience some redness, dryness, and mild swelling for 24-48 hours or longer depending on the intensity of the treatment.

Does it hurt?

Prior to your treatment we apply a topical numbing agent known as BLT Cream which contains benzocaine, lidocaine, and tetracaine. This significantly minimizes pain, you may still feel slightly uncomfortable. Most describe the treatment as tolerable.

How long does the treatment take?

Length of treatment depends on the size of the treatment area.  Microneedling takes about 30 min, PRP Facial takes about 45 minutes, and PRP hair restoration takes anywhere from 30-45 min.

When will I see results?

Within the first 2 weeks you will start to see a change in your skin after microneedling or a PRP facial. With hair restoration, many will notice improvement after 3 months but it may take 6-12 months to see obvious improvement.
